After reading some not-totally-glowing reviews of this color, I hesitated, unsure of what I might be purchasing. However, I am thrilled to say that due to a few negative nellys, my expectations were lowered, and Black Russian so far exceeded even my highest expectations that it was a total shock!
The color is a semi-sheer black cream base packed with red glitter. While the base is semi-sheer, it becomes opaque in two coats, and regardless of the lighting there is a definite red undertone to the color. I the pure depth of this color. While the glitter isn't overwhelming (or bumpy), the amount of it really makes this polish complex.

I was very nervous about trying this but Ji Baek nudged me into it when I went to the Meatpacking District salon for a pedicure last summer. I loved it immediately--it is tres chic! and works as well in summer as it does in winter. On me (pale skin) it's a deep deep nearly-black red with dimension. You don't really see the glitter but it make the polish look deep and gives it a sort of dimensional effect. It also lasts really well--as well as Killa Red, which is my high-water mark for lastingness.

I love a dark nail but many black shades are just too lifeless. Black Russian, on the other hand, is definitely black but with a depth and richness that other inky polishes lack. The red is not overly apparent, more a shimmer of color when you move your hand. If you'll be holding a champagne glass at the holiday party this season, then this is definitely the color you want on your nails.

I bought this color hoping to replicate what I had seen in a magazine (red is my favorite color!), but the color on my nails turned out to be just black, with hardly any of the cool shimmery red, despite my best efforts to 'dig' out some of the glitter. I was very disappointed! Definitely not worth the money!

I got a mani/pedi at the original lounge in the Meatpacking District and decided on this color based on the rave reviews. It looks fantastic in the bottle, but it loses it's intense glitter on the nail. It only looks like black polish with just a hint of red shimmer. You barely notice the red sparkle. The nail technician even admitted to the difference. I do like it as an alternative to the basic black which is why I gave it 3 stars.

I love the fact that it's kinda a 3d polish; you can see different sparkles from different angles of your hand. Very cool.

I am a suburban mom of three. I am also an attorney, so my work wardrobe is pretty conservative. I put Black Russian on my fingernails when I want to scream quietly "I'm feeling sexy today!" People always ask what color I'm wearing, and it is the fastest way I know to feel glamorous and mysterious. I wear this shade when I want to feel confident and strong.

I truly love Black Russian. I have searched high and low for the darkest/blackest red with shimmer, and this delivers!!! I cannot say enough about how fantastic this is, and always receive compliments!
